Architects was commissioned by Action Housing, Inc. to design and
develop this 36,888 square foot
complex, which features 48 housing units designed for seniors, located on
a seven-acre wooded site in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Each unit
consists of a one bedroom apartment with amenities such as air
conditioning, carpeting, and window treatments, and includes a living room
with dining area, full kitchen, full bath and foyer.
In addition, the complex includes a small management office, a community
activity room with cooking amenities, a full shared laundry facility, and
a large exterior patio. The building was designed with a masonry and plank
bearing system. Its open floor plan encourages senior residents to use the
entire facility, and conveniences like shallow rise stairs and an elevator
allow for easy access throughout the 4-story building.
Design and development for the Center Township Elderly Apartments was made
possible through funding from Section 202 of U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD) Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program and
monies from the Federal Home Loan Bank. The project was sponsored by
Action Housing, Inc., a not for profit corporation, and was built by Repal
Construction Company, Inc. Construction was completed in September 2001.
