The Historical Society of Mount Lebanon

The mission of the Historical Society of Mount Lebanon is to interpret and preserve the history of their community. In this spirit, the Society wanted to acquire and restore a house where they currently reside as a tenant. The 1920’s Spanish colonial revival house borders the commercial district and was home to a locally well-respected family practitioner, Dr. Donald McMillan. For the last 20 years, it housed municipal offices. RSH prepared a feasibility study that included space programming and design to return the house to its original grandeur, including removing dropped ceilings to expose stained glass and restoring a fountain that once was the centerpiece of the house. The first floor will house permanent exhibits and the second floor will be used for offices and archives. The basement will be converted to a multi-use space serving various functions, including larger traveling exhibits, lectures, and small community meetings.
