RSH Architects was retained by the
Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) of Southwestern Pennsylvania to design
the new
corporate headquarters of Dick's Clothing and Sporting Goods, which is now
located on
an eight acre site in RIDC Park West, a professional office park near
the Pittsburgh International Airport.
Since the tenant-specific facility was designed with anticipation of doubling
its initial occupancy. RSH
Architects worked
closely with facility management personnel at Dick's and with the staff at
RIDC to provide two siting alternatives, one to provide
efficient initial development and another to accommodate stated
growth projections.
The building is afforded a prominent position
high above Route 60. Its three story
configuration maximizes the on-site parking areas while offering
individual floor plates that work well with interior system furnishings.
Prefabricated panels of fiberglass reinforced concrete offset the masonry
exterior and articulate the façade.
A two-story glass atrium provides a grand entry to the building. While the
building's first and second floors open directly into the atrium, they are
protected by a deluge fire suppression system surrounding the atrium's
perimeter. The building also features a central service core that contains elevators, restrooms, an egress
stair, and primary distribution components of the building's mechanical
and electrical systems.
