 RSH
Architects was retained to provide construction administration services
for a 74 bed long-term care addition to the three-story Evergreen Nursing
Center, which was once occupied by the Knights of Pythias and used as a
retirement home. The designs included new food service facilities,
as well as renovations to the laundry area, employee lounge, and an
additional resident lounge. Additional renovations were made
to adapt the original building for use as a 45 bed personal care
facility. These included 7 additional patient beds, new physical
therapy facilities, a relocated activities area, dietary office, and a
"canteen" lounge serving the residents and their
families.
RSH Architects designed an additional long-term care wing consisting of 17
patient rooms, which was made to allow for an increase of 10 residents
without additional support areas, and an expansion of patient rooms in the
future. It features a resident lounge with a vaulted ceiling and
large window areas overlooking Little Connoquenessing Creek, as well as
a nurse's station, office facilities for the Director of Nursing,
central bathing, and a hair salon.
Externally, RSH redesigned the entrance drive, parking lots and receiving
drive to improve site circulation and save a large stand of trees along
the drive and entrance to the facility. A sizeable courtyard was
also incorporated into the facility to allow for supervised outdoor
activities for the residents.
