 RSH
Architects was commissioned to design this 21, 883
Square foot, 26-unit apartment building, which sits on the site of
the former Grandview School on Grandview Avenue in McKeesport. Adaptive
reuse of the existing school was considered and thoroughly investigated,
however, it proved to be unfeasible. Working with the State Historic
Preservation Office, the existing building was fully documented,
researched and subsequently demolished to make way for a new building.
The new apartment building is for seniors. Each 540 square foot apartment
is designed as a one-bedroom unit with amenities that include air
conditioning and carpeting, as well as a fully accessible bathroom and
full kitchen. The project also features a shared community activity room
and ample parking.
Development of the three story apartment complex was made possible through
funding from Section 202 of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) Supportive Housing for the Elderly program, and
sponsorship from the McKeesport Housing Corporation.
