Architects was commissioned by the Lutheran Service Society to
develop an adaptive renovation and addition proposal to obtain HUD
financing for a 50-unit elderly and handicapped apartment building.
The plan complied with flood plain limitations of the adjoining creek, which
parallels the south side of the site. The masonry addition
incorporated detail elements from the historic Transit Building and the
Renovated City Hall. The combined structure includes 50 one-bedroom
apartments, two community rooms, a resident laundry and mechanical
spaces. Each unit features a foyer, combined living/dining area,
kitchen, bedroom, and bath.
Renovation of the existing building required significant structural
modifications, including removal of deteriorated floor toppings, window
and roof replacement and masonry restoration.
