RIDC
of Southwestern Pennsylvania retained RSH Architects to provide
architectural services for the design of this 67,000 square foot executive
office, "Thorn Hill Corporate Center." Our services were
initially retained for the design of the building shell. This included
site analysis and selection, analysis of economical structural systems,
and the interior buildout of all life safety requirements to create
leasable space for the client.
During construction, Marconi Communication entered into a lease with RIDC
and commissioned RSH Architects to provide architectural design and
interior design for all of their tenant improvements. Marconi required an
aesthetic layout and design that would integrate the new structure with
Marconi’s existing nearby headquarters.
The tenant improvements included a 150 seat cafeteria and kitchen, two
kitchenettes, two training rooms totalling 2,800 square feet, and two labs
at a cumulative 4,300 square feet. Due to their extensive power needs and
resultant heat generation, extensive modifications to the building’s
infrastructure were required to accommodate the addition of a 110 ton
chiller for the spaces requiring cooling of heavy equipment. The building,
along with all tenant improvements, was completed in April of 2001.
