 Peter's
Township awarded RSH Architects a commission to study facility needs and
produce a site development masterplan, integrating a public works
maintenance facility, bulk material storage and a community recycling
center into the first phase of development of a community park. The
new Peterswood Park entrance would be positioned in close proximity
to the public works facility, necessitating visual and security screening
of the site.
The public works complex project included renovations and an addition to
an existing prefabricated building to provide additional vehicular
storage, a high bay for a truck lift, major improvements to all mechanical
and electrical systems and renovation of the public works office and staff
areas. The bulk storage facility was designed to contain up to 2000
cubic yards of road salt under cover with additional open bin storage for
road materials. The facility was structured to utilize the existing
grade as a natural surcharge against the stored material. Structural
elements were held twenty two feet above the grade, thus permitting front
end loaders and tri-axle dump trucks to clear the roof during loading and
unloading.
Subsequently, Peter's Township retained RSH Architects to design an
addition to the storage building to house various road equipment and other
weather sensitive apparatus. The expansion followed the original
plan, with foundations for the open storage bins reused for the new
addition.
