Kennywood Park - Johnny Rockets

The franchise Johnny Rockets was contracted by the owner of Kennywood Park, Palace Entertainment to occupy one of the park’s original historic buildings built in 1898. The octagonal structure was built to house the park’s original three-row menagerie carousel built by Dentzel of Philadelphia. In 1929 a new carousal building was built and this structure was converted to an open air, refreshment area. In the 1940’s renovations modernized the exterior look of the building to make it look futuristic. This modern look fit well with the Johnny Rocket’s 1950’s theme. Serious structural damage was repaired, original exposed wood ceilings were maintained and the building was weatherproofed for summer and winter months.
