Built
in 1964 as Wightman Manor, this eight-story, 190-bed facility was
considered a model skilled nursing facility in its time. Over the years,
changes in programming needs and expectations of higher standards of
quality in nursing environments prompted the owner to pursue a plan of
improvement.
RSH Architects prepared a facility program which included numerous
upgrades. Those upgrades included major renovation of the building core,
the nursing stations, central bathing areas, linen rooms, and elevators.
Improved vertical circulation through the building required that a new
elevator shaft be built within the existing core. Exterior renovations
included masonry cleaning, waterproofing, and synthetic stucco restoration
followed by replacement of all windows. Improvements were made in
ventilation, sprinklers, electrical systems, and interior finishes
throughout the building.
