 RSH
Architects was retained to plan and design the new Ya Fei Restaurant
by creating a contemporary interior that incorporated classic Chinese
elements. The plan required accommodations for both traditional
seating and Chinese banquet style presentation of an abundant menu.
The restaurant entrance invites patrons through a stylized pagoda
constructed of a natural cherrywood, which also adorns doors and woodwork
trim adding a honey rich glow to the interior. Flanking the
reception area are a banquet room and a lounge with cocktail bar
service. The main dining room ceiling rests on beams and lintels
which are derived from classical temple architecture, and hues of
turquoise and peach accent the light jade green backgrounds in wall
coverings and flooring.
Working together with interior consultant Isabell Nardelli and food
service consultant Michael Taylor, RSH Architects developed the 3500
square foot plan which seats 120 patrons. RSH Architects also
provided careful mechanical and electrical design coordination to support
special food preparation equipment, including a four burner wok and a
450,000 BTUH cooking line. In addition, special make-up and exhaust
air handling equipment was specified to provide required ventilation,
while maintaining an acceptable kitchen environment.
