The Residences at Wood Street

The Residences at Wood Street is a 16 story building in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. The facility houses extremely low-income individuals in standard dorm-like rooms. The renovation project developed over a several year process that involved RSH Architects working with the Non-Profit Owner Group and multiple financing sponsors including federal, state, and local governmental agencies. The majority of financing was provided by PHFA through a weatherization program in which the renovation project received monies to improve insulation, install a new heating and cooling system, and replace all light fixtures and bathroom fixtures.

Other renovation projects throughout the facility included the painting of the grand two-story entry lobby, re-roofing, ADA bathroom renovations, fire system upgrades, and commercial floor demolition. RSH Architects and IAMS Consulting developed an energy model of the building systems and provided a design which is to provide an operations savings close to 1/2 of the current utility budget.
